After the last few days, I needed that little news item to cheer me up.
Thursday, had day off to do curtains and general tidy up. This curtain material is driving me barmy! Above is the design I am working with. The curtain panels are slightly wider than the fabric which, of course, means, I have crop a panel down and then match it to another panel. My eyes were going wonky just looking at the design. Then I decided to use what is called Magic curtain tapes to create the heading. First of all you have to search for instructions as it doesn’t come with instructions and you have try to attach so that it doesn’t crinkle as you sew it on. Anyway, apart from the hemming, (which I will do the correct way for a change) I actually have one pair up at the window. One more pair to do!
Friday was spend driving to Denton to collect youngest daughter (YD) who has successfully navigated her way through her first year at college. If it had ended there, the day would have been good. Unfortunately it didn’t
Emily was fully packed by the time we arrived and was ready for her room inspection, so was out of her room by the allotted time. Her friend whose car we were driving down to Pflugerville for the summer, was not ready and had to shuttle more stuff to her storage unit. Not that she thought it might be prudent to tell Emily what the heck was going on. About 2.5 hrs later than planned she was ready but not without flying off in another direction muttering under breathe, that the tank was on E,so she was getting some money for gas. By this point, Gordon and I were livid ( no thanks or sorry for being late) we told her to keep the $20 and then we were on the road. Gordon and Emily had a discussion about the way to go but obviously, Gordon wasn’t listening as usual and tottled off the way he normally goes. Emily decides to go the slightly shorter way to freeway, rather than follow. Me I was in the middle of the convoy and didn’t have a clue
Gordon contacted Emily as he got on the freeway. He was not a happy camper by far and it was only made worse by hitting rush hour traffice in Fort Worth. Anyways, we got home, several hours later than anticipated but safe, so we should be careful for that.
Saturday was pretty non-eventful.I had taken a new sleeping pill, Lunesta, as the ambien is taking longer to take effect. The doctor had warned me of the tiny side effect most people suffer from – a bitter metallic taste in their mouths, he didn’t tell me it would take 24 hrs to get rid off. It didn’t even really help me sleep. I was having weird dreams and then wake up, several times during the night. Unfortunately, that left me feeling slightly disconnected for the rest of the day and for the first hour of the pot luck meal we had been invited to. Despite that, I enjoyed myself. Gordon joined a new group at work recently so this was a group meeting for the wives to meet and chat. However, I am too scared to try the lunesta again, so it back to ambien for me.
Sunday, was just Sunday! No mother day, no nothing. Best not say a thing except to say I know the kids are all broke (all students with loans etc.) so didn’t expect any gifts etc but it would have been nice to get a card at least. ED redeemed herself by phoning at about 8 pm.
Today started off ok, finished off those curtains but then I had to go into work, on the cutting table again. Appears there is work going on in the framing shop but it doesn’t include me
. After 4 days off, I really wasn’t in the mood to be working at the cutting table and listening to idiot people who seem to have lost have their brain as they walk into Joann’s and expect to do everything (and I mean, everything) for them. However, as the day wore on, my mood lighten up and then I collected 4 of the frames I had ordered. They looked superb, I must admit (just wish I could have worked on them!)
Tomorrow I have another day off – (I love these hours, means I get to do more at home), I am taking Emily down to the Community College to sign up for summer classes, go and get myself a new pillow in the hope it will induce sleep and get started on the final pair of curtains for now.
Yeah! I am really looking forward to our trip to Scotland! Booked it this morning for June 23-July 4th. Its only 10 days but it will be good to be back home for a while.

Scotland sounds lovely – wonder what Charlie is up to these days? Do you recall him? I basically got started on blogging as he was my first regular and a lot of help. Re sleeping – do you not sleep because of endless mind chatter – or is it something else? I was fine till Don died, but now often have heart palpitations which make me think I am having a heart attack, flushes of heat , mind chatter like you wouldn’t believe. When he was alive I would sleep like a baby…along with what it is you are taking …or without have you tried Bach Flower rescue remedy “Sleep” Its a spray you use under your tongue and you can use as much as oyu like within reason. It doesn’t get rid of all the chatter but for me it helped a bit – and thats what its all abour – helping a bit – also you don’t get the wierd dreams etc with it…
For me I just couldn’t start taking something from the GP, because for me it was the grief and the horror of what they did to Don and my mum started taking stuff when Dad was killed, she never stopped. For you the situation is different – but the nights would be as bad.
I feel for you
